“Because the Lord is righteous and good, He teaches sinners the path they should follow.”
God’s goodness will always guide my path. He will always show me the way.
This verse goes a long way to showing us the nature of God. In this context, “righteous” and “good” mean loving, kind, honorable and moral. And because these virtues are His nature, and we are created in His image, He wants to show us how to be these things too.
We have been created in God’s image, to be like Him and to share His nature with others. But we are all sinners. It is our nature. Yet, despite this, God will never give up on us. He will always try to show us the correct path that we are destined for.
No matter how far we veer off the path, no matter how many times our sinful nature takes over, He will continuously and tirelessly keep showing us the right way. Like a shepherd, He will lead His sheep out of darkness when they go astray. We will keep messing up, but He will keep showing up for us. Is that not the greatest gift? The best news you have heard all day!
God’s goodness will always show us the path. But what is this path we are to take? It is simply our choice of good over evil. Right over wrong. Love over hate. We need to keep choosing these paths with God’s guidance. And this in turn is God’s commitment to us. To keep teaching us. To keep guiding us. To keep correcting us. To keep showing us.
When we want to apply this verse in our lives, we need to come to God and ask Him to show us the way. If we have veered off His path, ask His forgiveness, and then ask Him to guide you in the right direction.
We live in an age of information overload. If we have any questions or are uncertain of anything, we quickly fire up a Google search. Immediate answers at our fingertips. But who is to say that those are the correct answers? That the first result in Google is the correct path you should take, and not the fifth result? Or the 100th result? Yes, they may all be factually correct, but for application in your life, is that the road you need to travel? The only one who can show you which is the correct path is God. Next time you have questions, go to God. Let Him show you the answer and the way.
Psalms 25:8 is an encouraging verse, and something we can take comfort in. It is God’s promise to us. He will always show us the way. He promises to always show us the way because He is good, not because of anything we have done. And because He always does what is right, He will always keep His promise to us.
